Jean Francois Gomree

Born in to a family of furniture makers in southern Belgium, Gomree studied at the Ecole National Superieure-La Cambre in Brussels before moving to the United States in 1994 to join SWA Design, the studio behind the acclaimed Aeron office chair and other notable innovations in ergonomics. He leads the Horm's ventures in bringing human-factors design to the realm of residential furniture. Prior to this, Gomree worked primarily with the American manufacturer Herman Miller in generating concepts and solutions for the office environment. He took an interest in creating furniture that would facilitate communication and humanize the workplace setting, designing such products as an ergonomic rocking chair and individual side tables to replace the conference table. A committed researcher, opinionated designer, occasional sculptor and graphic designer, he practices a total approach to design.
