NOE from Verzelloni

26 July 2010

Straight from the Milan Fair is Verzelloni's new modular lounge sofa Noe. Designed by the creative powerhouse Lievore Altherr Molina, Noe is a highly modern sofa concept thanks to the multiple configurations possible that are fluid, open and eclectic. Noe can be equipped with the new Blog table which serves as a practical surface and, when fitted with a special cushion, becomes a comfortable armrest.

Sancal Rocks

3 May 2010

Usually, rock is an accelerated blues rhythm.
In this instance, however, Rafa Garcia's Rock is a small family of tables inspired by the abundance, exuberance and optimism of the '~50s - an expressive and sensual project influenced by organic and biomorphic forms which popularized the pioneers of industrial design.
The Rock tables, like the musical style from which the name is taken, are characterised by a contemporary feel, and by the fusion of different styles - in this case visual rather than sonorous. Oak, mirror and smoked glass are the notes of a score that can create a personalised melody. Besides playing with the curves, volumes and materials, the different heights and extending table increase the versatility of the set.

Albino by Salvatore Indriolo

3 May 2010

Albino is the clever coffee table with a wooden shelf able to be separated from the structure and used as a tray. Its wooden LED light may be freely positioned on the frame with a magnet clamp (and powered with rechargeable batteries) turning it into a torch - the perfect answer to anyone's survival kit.

Enea for Kids

3 May 2010

The design powerhouse of Lievore Altherr Molina proved their status again, this time with Enea and their commercial and versatile Lottus collection.
Enea presented the Lottus collection in their refined earthy colour palette of orange, avocado green, beige, mocca and soft grey. The range includes a chair (available on 4 legs and sled base with two arm options), an office chair (on castors and glides), barstool, and has now been extended to a beam seat and fun kids seating range. The kids collection definitely was the eye-catching element for us - perfect for schools, libraries and the home, the kids of 2010 will be the playing in the most stylish of settings.

Lieve by Diego Vencato

1 May 2010

Horm again wowed us in Milan, this time with Lieve - the floating table. The force of gravity is a perception: the innovative material created by pairing wooden tiles cut by laser with felt creates the illusion of a drape supporting the table surface in tempered glass. The table top seems to float above the fabric and gravity seems to disappear for a moment.

Sinapsi by Sebastian Errazuriz

1 May 2010

Sinapsi presented by Italian company Horm at the Salone Internationale del Mobile reminds us of the London Tube Map.
By concentrating on the study of cells and cerebral branches Sebastian Errazuriz has created a model that is repeatable, offering a vast array of shapes and spaces suited to growing organically to respond to the changing needs of end consumers. Even the technology used for the construction is revolutionary: instead of being bent, the wood is folded and pressed to obtain the desired form. This industrial process allows for creating even complex organic shapes without the use of costly moulds.

9th Andreu World International Design Competition

3 November 2009

The annual Andreu World International Design Competition is open to both students and professionals in the field of design; and with no age limit anyone can enter.
The challenge is to design a seat or table, which invoke both innovative design and original styling.
This year's judges were thrilled with the entries and winners were as follows. Images from top to bottom:

1ST PRIZE to WOOX barstool from Boris Innecken and Philipp Christ (Darmstadt-Alemania)
The judging panel has appreciated the idea of separating the seat from the wooden frame; to not only improve its comfort but also allow for the extension and development of the range based on the simplicity of the object. The formal elegance of the piece has also been commended.

2ND PRIZE to the Margarita seat from Loïc Lobet (Marseille-Francia)
The simple construction makes the piece an easy production that achieves all the comfort and functions that a chair demands. The shear weight of the chair has also been strongly admired by the judges.

1st Mention, Caballo Lounge Chair project, Jason White de Detroit (USA)

2nd Mention, Bough Chair, Stephen Tierney de Blackrock (Irlanda)

3rd Mention, Leafchair Project, Francesco Fiotti de Casamarciano (Italia)

Novecento at the Opera in Bjørvika, Oslo

Capdell's Novecento sets the scene on the terrace of the new building of the Opera in Bjørvika, Oslo.

Emerging from the sea in the centre of Oslo, the recently built Opera is the new futurist building of the Norwegian capital. The construction has been inspired by an ice floe that emerges from the sea and it is characterised by its surface covered in marble and an enormous crystal front with solar panels.
The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2009 has been awarded to The Norwegian Opera & Ballet, Oslo by Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, Tarald Lundevall, Craig Dykers / Snøhetta.
Novecento is the most romantic armchair from Capdell, conceived from a perspective based on classic shapes. As an attractive reflection of the multiple possibilities that polypropylene offers, it fits perfectly on the terrace on the opera.

Novecento is currently in stock at UFL Group. Click here for more information.

SATURDAY IN DESIGN

8 August 2009

Sydney = Design central with Saturday in Design. Highlights of the day -

The whimsical Lzf Lamps Tunnel: Ke-Zu created a romantic experience walking through Lzf's Pod and Poppy Lamps; the secret garden by Good Manors on their terrace was magical while providing enchanting spaces to sit back and reflect on the day.

Designer food @ Ke-Zu and Core Furniture/Light2: Ten designers came together in this design extravaganza, with a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds. Each company created designs for sushi made by chefs from the Ivy's acclaimed Sushi Choo restaurant. The sushi didn't last more than 5 minutes.

Stylecraft partnered with Bills to provide a day of design, food and GECA environmental discussions while the graduating students from Whitehouse Institute of Design designed an original installation for the Stylecraft Showroom created with reused folders. Inspirational!

Living Edge had been running a miniature chair competition in the lead up to SID: The brief was simple - they supply two Chandon Sparkling corks and designers must design their own miniature chair masterpiece. The creations were unique and exciting ranging from loungers, to ottomans and high back chairs.

AGATHA IN NEW YORK

15 July 2009

Agatha designed for LZF Lamps, Spain by the Luis Eslava Studio

Lzf Lamps made it large at the ICFF in New York this year with their new suspension light Agatha featured in the New York Times.
Agatha's unique shape springs from the concentric superposition of a triangular shaped modular base. It's made of natural timber veneer at 98% recyclable.

MACARONI PENGUIN - Pop Up Genius

12 May 2009

The clever team at Showroom 22, made up of Murray Bevan, Anna Ftizpatrick & Angela Crane have again achieved huge success with their clever 4 week 'pop-up store' Macaroni Penguin in Teed Street, Newmarket.

Macaroni Penguin was assembled as a knee-jerk reaction to what some would call a 'crisis' in the fashion retail sector. As new and established stores close, Macaroni Penguin has emerged as a mint-green beacon of hope on the retail horizon, providing a vehicle for designers to sell current winter and past season's stock.

The store has been promoted as a fast-paced fashion boutique with quirks, fun and odd-and-ends thrown in. UFL Group were lucky enough to get a load in, and lent their expertise to Macaroni Penguin, fitting the store out with some of the world's best furniture to add that extra little sparkle. Designer labels on sale at Macaroni Penguin include Alexandra Owen, Twenty-Seven Names, Kathryn Wilson, MAW, Karen Walker Eyewear, Le Specs, Sera Lilly, Richard Moore, Starfish, Laurie Foon and a selection of vintage garments from PullYourSocksUp.co.nz.

Now, 1 week into their 4 week venture, all I am hearing about is Macaroni Penguin. With hot fashion, gorgeous products and new samples coming in daily, it truly is the perfect way for UFL to promote its new range of Parri and Capdell furniture.

Check at Macaroni Penguin open until 30 May!

DAYLIGHT stacking chair made from recycled car batteries

18 November

The Daylight is a revolutionary new chair designed by Toru Iseki. It is completely environmentally friendly, the standard chair being constructed from recycled and recyclable materials. The resin found on the black and grey chairs are formed using six recycled car batteries and comply to the Japanese Ministry of the Environment's Law on Promoting Green Purchasing as well as winning a Best of Neo-Con award at the largest North American world furniture trade fair.

The functional strengths of the Daylight also place it as a premium high density, multi-purpose stacking chair. When placed on the transport dolly it can be stacked 45 units high at a little over 2 metres high. Due to its incredibly light-weight structure, weighing 4.1kg, the arrangement and alignment of the chairs is simple and layouts are easily reconfigured thanks to the integral linking glides. Daylight is fabricated as one complete unit and the bonding of the frame and the back rest mean the chair is extremely durable and the mesh is protected from damage during stacking and storage.

Daylight mesh stacking chairs are ideally suited for high traffic uses including training, meeting and conference areas where users are with the chair for a long period. The mesh offers flexibility for different body shapes and prevents pressure points from forming as well as transparency to allow smooth air flow and ventilation. Available in black, grey or white with a powder coated or chrome frame finish, the Daylight chair is available exclusively from UFL in New Zealand.

Rotating Tape Heads

14 October

UFL Group has developed a simple and innovative world first with the design and manufacture of our new rotating tape heads.

Rotating tape heads allow staff to easily and efficiently alter the configuration of a fixed or base mounted public guidance system without the need to lift the heavy units one by one.

Rotating tape heads, greatly improve the flexibility of any queuing system and enable quick and easy changes to be made to the configuration which may be caused by client or staff numbers increasing and decreasing throughout the day.

The rotating tape head also provides economic benefits by decreasing the cost of breakages and maintenance as users are able to avoid mishandling the tapes and damaging them during configuration changes

Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2008

April 2008

The 2008 Milan International furniture fair was held in April this year with many new and exciting ranges once again launched by the big and not so big (but hot!) names in contemporary furniture. This was the biggest ever Salone held with more than 270,000 people in attendance at the main fair and a further 1000,000 at the satellite exhibitions in the Zona Tortona area.

Themes were extended and refined from last years fair and it was great to see that fine craftsmanship in particular had returned in hand made wooden pieces, frills and finesse had been enhanced with fabrics, textures and form and there was a burst of colours, shapes and gloss finishes in the polypropylenes and lacquers. This was balanced with a more somber black and white "moody" look reflected in many of the displays.

Some exciting new designs from UFL's suppliers who exhibited at the fair have begun to arrive in our Avondale showroom and for a sneak preview please see attached images.

Marco Maran, Art Director for Parri with "Lovely" tub chair and "Kubik" stool for both indoor and outdoor use.

If you would like further information, images or catalogues for any of these products please inform us at info@ufl.co.nz.

We will be introducing further new products via our e-card system as they arrive.
