Josh Owen

Josh Owen was born in the U.S.A in 1970. The son of an archaeologist, he spent the summers of his youth on excavations in the Middle East. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture and a Bachelor of Arts in visual studies from Cornell University, and a Masters in Fine Art in furniture design from RISD. In 1988 Owen established his studio in Philadelphia and in 2001 he was appointed assistant professor of industrial design at Philadelphia University. In 2002 he became the youngest designer to be included in the 'American Design; 1975 - 2000' Exhibition at the Denver Art Museum. In 2003, Surface designated him as one of the most avante-garde industrial designers in the U.S.A. In 2004 he was included in MoMA's Design Encyclopedia and his studio clients include; Alessi, Casamania, DMD, Bozart and Umbra. His projects are included in museum collections, numerous books and international design magazines. Owen has been the recipient of several design awards including the Chicago Good Design Award and the Athena Emerging Designer Award.
