For many years now, Joan Lao has been an icon in current design. His creations have been disseminated throughout the international markets, from Spain to North America, Middle East and Latin America.
Difficult to classify, due to the many levels of design in which he works, Joan Lao (Barcelona, 1962), is primarily a conceptual creator whose vision of design is always a means via which to translate a concept.
Throughout his career he has covered the fields of interior design and architecture, designing pieces of furniture, lighting and other objects, as well as working on global interior design projects and the integral creation of spaces characterized by balance and harmony.
His interior designs have a unique quality: they create an immediate and lasting emotional response. His works have been displayed during international events, such as the Cologne and Milan Trade Fairs. They have also been exhibited in numerous countries, including Germany, Belgium, USA, Greece, Holland, Israel and Singapore, as well as Spain. Some of his creations have been placed on exhibition in museums.
His interior design projects have been mainly applied to private houses and apartments, hotels and shops and have received several awards. During his 22-year career, Laos has undertaken over 3,000 projects, most notably the workshop of El Bulli, in conjunction with Ferran Adrià, and the creation of international sales outlets for fashion designers such as Carolina Herrera and Victorio & Lucchino.
