Francis Montesinos

Fashion designers are focussing on furniture design, and Francis Montesinos (born in Valencia in 1950) has done so through Andreu World with his chair creation called Luna. His chair is dressed in a coat that can either be long or short depending on the occasion, and bears a signature emphasising that special kind of fashion passion felt by this Valencian creative ever since he opened his first shop in the capital city in 1972. Montesinos became an authentic phenomenon in the cultural scene of the 80's, when he was the first Spanish designer to be given the Aguja de Oro fashion award in 1985. After his debut in the famed Las Ventas Bullring in Madrid in front of 15,000 people, with a fashion parade paying homage to Picasso, Camaron and Sorolla, he was invited, together with Vivienne Westwood and Claudia Skoda, to take part in the Dressater in Berlin in 1988. That is where his gypsy look concept was born, and since then he has regularly shown at events such as Cibeles in Madrid or the FIMI Children's Fashion Fair in Valencia and has collaborated on countless projects. In 1995 he designed an Opel Tigre limited edition and among many others, he has made costumes for the National Ballet of Cuba's Swan Lake, the Antonio Canales Gipsy Ballet and the film 'Matador' by Pedro Almodovar.
